Conrad Hilton and the Ultimate Exit Strategy
The rise of Conrad Hilton from his early days in Texas in the 1920s when he bought his first hotel and began expanding his empire. The early days were tough. Hilton went broke during the Depression and had to get bailed out by the Moody family. He eventually turned around his woes by borrowing $30,000 to re-buy his El Paso hotel. In one year, he paid off the loan. By the end of the Depression, Hilton had saved 5 out of his 8 original hotels and emerged debt free. Thus begun Hilton's global domination.
