Former Police Captain Joins Occupy Wall Street; Then Gets Arrested

Since the early stages of the Occupy Wall Street, veterans from the U.S. military joined the ranks of the protest movement. Many vets marched with OWS and squatted in different camps across the country. Some of the older vets had fought in Vietnam and the first Gulf War, while a new wave of vets fresh off of tours in Iraq and Afghanistan have also joined the cause, including one pissed off a Marine, who scared the shit out of bunch of NYPD officers in Times Square.

Earlier this week, the Occupy Wall Street welcomed its first high-ranking police officer to join the ranks of the 99%. Raymond Lewis, a retired police captain from Philadelphia, was spotted in his former dress uniform carrying around a sign that read "NYPD Don't Be Wall Street Mercenaries." He also displayed another one inviting the NYPD to join the movement after they watch Inside Job (the documentary film about the 2008 financial implosion created by Wall Street bankers).

In this video, Capt. Lewis gave some wise advice to protesters. He also said that he felt bad for his fellow police officers because they are just "workers for the 1% and they don't even realize they're being exploited."



As he predicted in the original video, Capt. Lewis was arrested yesterday in Zuccotti Park during the N17 Day of Action. Here's video of his arrest...

Occupy Wall Street - Zuccotti Park Raided

The Occupy Wall Street camp inside Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan was raided by NYPD early on Tuesday morning. It was an ugly scene -- the area was dubbed a "frozen Zone" and the press was kept away while riot police cleared house and locked up any protesters in their path. Josh Harkinson was the only reporter inside the "frozen zone" when things went down. Read his chilling recap of the events.

The raid on Zuccotti Park and other similar actions across Occupy camps in America appear to be a coordinated effort. Oakland Mayor Jean Quan revealed that she took part in a conference call with 18 other mayors about coordinating a nationwide crackdown on the OWS Movement.

Whispers are swirling that last night's clear out was directed in conjunction with the FBI. Meanwhile, Wonkette suggested the crackdowns were coordinated by Homeland Security.
